Call For Applications For NOMAD Dance Academy

BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - NOMAD Dance Academy is inviting young artists from the field of contemporary dance and related professions to the nomadic "dance-research-exchange" program from Sarajevo, via Skopje, Sofia, Belgrade and Zagreb to Ljubljana, that takes place from February 26 to June 22 2009.

The Youth Open Theatre Begins

SKOPJE (SEEcult.org) - The international festival Youth Open Theatre began on September 18 in Skopje with Montenegrin National Theatre’s play Parocheal Wedding, Brecht’s play directed by Edward Miller, and through Septemebr 27 will present projects from Belgium, Czech, Slovenia, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia and Germany, selected by renowned theatre producer and director of the Ex-Ponto festival in Ljubljana Damir Domitrovic Kos. The 33rd MOT also will present several Macedonian plays, selected by Visar Viska.

First Belgrade of Light Festival

BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - A festival dedicated to light, called Belgrade of light, are happening in Serbia capital for the first time, and it will also present several European festivals of lighting at the exhibition which will be open on September 20 in Magacin in Kraljevica Marka Street. Through artistic interventions in space, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, Belgrade of Light will open up a completely new experience and present a different image of the city.

Integration Impossible? By Tanja Ostojic

INNSBRUCK (SEEcult.org) - The exhibition “Integration Impossible?: the politics of migration in the work of Tanja Ostojic 2000–2007” is on view from September 18 through November 8 at the Kunstpavillon in Innsbruck. It is first one woman show of well known Berlin based Serbian artist Tanja Ostojic, who delineates the field of her artistic approach through research, reflection, communication, exchange, and criticism of contemporary society.

BITEF Presents the Tragedy of Our Time

BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - Belgrade International Theatre Festival (BITEF), one of the biggest and the most important in Europe, began on Septembr 15 with a powerful visual spectacle More or Less Infinity by the Company 111 from Toulouse, directed by Phil Soltanoff, and through September 28 will present another nine projects of some of the most important world directors, under the common theme “Tragicomedy - tragedy of our time”.

Janez Jansa in Linz, Pancevo, Istanbul…

LJUBLJANA (SEEcult.org) - New media artist Janez Jansa, founder of Aksioma - Institute for Contemporary Art in Ljubljana, started in September intensive international activities, including participation at the group exhibition at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, as well as at the 13th Art Biennial in Pancevo in Serbia, where he presented project DemoKino - Virtual Biopolitical Agora, an anti - entertainment interactive movie.

The Trap Won in Seoul

BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - Srdan Golubovic’s film The Trap has won the main award at the recently finished Seoul International Film Festival, which jury was presided by the renowned American director Michael Cimino, said the distribution company “Tuck” from Belgrade.

VRUM With a New Premiere

ZAGREB (SEEcult.org) - Croatian performing arts collective VRUM is opening the new season with a few guest performances in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia and Austria, as well as with a new premiere - “Tainted”, based on idea of awarded choreographer Sanja Tropp Frühwald, the winner of last year’s Platform for Emerging Choreographers in Zagreb.

Special Golden Camera 300 to Bulajic and Golan

BITOLA / SKOPJE (SEEcult.org) - The International Cinematographers Film festival (ICFF) Manaki Brothers, which will be held in Bitola and Skopje, for the first time this year will grant three Special Awards Golden Camera 300 for significant contribution to the world cinematography, and among the laureates are Menahem Golan, the world renowned Israeli/American producer and director, as well as famous Croatian director Veljko Bulajic.

Mladen Miljanovic - I Serve Art

SARAJEVO (SEEcult.org) - The exhibition of a multidisciplinary project “I Serve Art” of Mladen Miljanovic, winner of the Zvono Award in 2007 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be opened on September 16 at the National Gallery of BH in Sarajevo, and will present the works conceived during his nine-month isolation (October 2006 - July 2007) in former army barracks Vrbas in the centre of Banja Luka.

Wonlich in Serbian Pavilion at Venice Biennial

VENICE / BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - Serbia is presenting at the 11th Venice Architecture Biennial with the project “Wonlich” (cosy), which is opened on September 13 by Serbian Assistant Minister of Culture Branislav Dimitrijevic, and is not an exhibition only, but also the theoretical assumptions and the idea of how to treat the topic of cosiness.

Goran Markovic The Best Director in Montreal

MONTREAL /BELGRADE (SEEcult.org) - Awarded Serbian director Goran Markovic won the award for best director at the World Film Festival in Montreal for his antiwar film Tour (Turneja), Serbia/Bosnia and Herzegovina co-production, which was also awarded by the FIPRESCI.

The European Heritage Days in Serbia

BELGRADE / BAC (SEEcult.org) - Celebration of Europe cultural heritage in Serbia officially started on September 13 in Bac in Vojvodina, and through September 21 will be held in rest of the country, including in Belgrade, where the events marking the 2007 European Heritage Days took place last year.

The Golden Chainsaw Winners

VARAZDIN (SEEcult.org) - The Trash Film Festival in Varazdin, Croatia, held from September 11-13, awarded its Golden Chainsaw award to athors from Croatia, Finland and Serbia. The Golden Chainsaw for the best horror is awarded to “Crna ovca u restoranu za zombije” by Kristijan Kauric from Croatia, while the best action is “Deadlock” by J. Ahman and E. Lehtinen from Finland.

Pure Expression in Pancevo

PANCEVO (SEEcult.org) - The 13th Biennial of Art "Pure Expression" in Pancevo, started on September 13 at the Gallery of Contemporary Art, presents works of 50 Serbian and international artists, as well as theatre and film program, focused on theme “Pure Expression”. The Biennial is opened with the proclamation of the “Pancevo Republic!”, by public reading of independence declaration, playing of the anthem and displaying of the emblems of republic.
