BIRN – Balkan Investigative Regional Reporting Network is launching a call for ten journalists with strong interest in cultural policy and regional cooperation to participate in the third year of the regional project, BICCED, funded by the Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans.

Within the course of three years, the project has aimed to build a pool of 30 skilled journalists from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, and Macedonia to write about common cultural policy issues contributing to the change and development of individual country policies.

Submit your film to the biggest internationally recognized database of creative feature and television documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. East Silver is organized by the Institute of Documentary Film in Jihlava, Czech Republic in October, 25 - 30, 2011.

The Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival 2011

In June 2011 the Balkans Beyond Borders Short Film Festival travels to Athens, where the headquarters of the eponymous NGO organising the festival is based. This year, similar to last year, young artists from the Balkan region and beyond (Southeast Europe) up to the age of 30 are invited to create their own short films on a pre-defined subject.

Entries are accepted until the 31st of March 2011.

This year’s edition will tackle the topical subject of crises, and aspiring artists will be invited to address the question of “Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Crises?”

Tirana Art Lab Centre for Contemporary Art and its partners are inviting young, creative and curious film makers, willing to meet new people and visit new places, to apply to one of its 3 film-making wokshops “Who is afraid of the Big Bad Crises?” which will be held in Skopje, Athens and Tirana.

The workshops will aim to address the topical issue of “crisis” by developing 3 films all starting from the same moment of crisis and structured around the same 'anchor moments'.

The Milena Jesenská Fellowship program offers European journalists time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice at the IWM in Vienna.

Applicants are asked to relate their proposals to societal issues of European relevance and to one of the main research fields of the IWM. Additionally, this year proposals which focus on human rights are strongly encouraged.

European Residence Programme for Writers and Literary Translators - Sarajevo 2011-2012

The TRADUKI literary network, in cooperation with the Sarajevo Open Centre, will initiate the two-year European Residence Programme for Writers and Literary Translators in May 2011. The idea behind the programme is to enable writers and translators to work intensely on their manuscripts for one month, to get acquainted with the social and literary circumstances in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while at the same time
promoting literature and the work of the visiting translators to the local audience.

Moderna galerija / Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, invites curators to enter for the Igor Zabel Competition. The winning project will be realized in September 2011 at the Mala galerija (Slovenska cesta 35, Ljubljana).

The Igor Zabel Competition is an annual event dedicated to curatorial research in contemporary art. As a longstanding curator at Moderna galerija Igor Zabel emphasised the importance of the dialogue, heterogeneous identities, transparency and contextual captivity of the curator.
