Belgrade Jazz Festival in October

BELGRADE - The 23rd Belgrade Jazz Festival (BJF) will be held between October 24-29 with the slogan “Strictly Jazz”, organized by the Youth Cultural Center, and among the greatest stars this year will be American singer D. D. Bridgewater and the pianist Brad Mehldau.

The BJF will be opened on October 24 by the clarinetist, saxophonist and composer Gianluigi Trovesi, the member of the famous “Italian Instabile Orchestra”. During his career, he recorded albums with liner notes by Umberto Eco.

The Portuguese jazz singer Maria Joao will perform on October 26 in Dom sindikata, presenting her new album “Joao” dedicated to the Brazilian music. Up to now, this interesting musician has performed music varying from the Portuguese folk music to Tom Wait’s arrangements and electronic music.

American pianist Brad Mehldau, as the most interesting performer for the younger audience, will perform on October 27 at the Kolarac Hall, and on the following evening the bassist Avishai Cohen from Israel will present himself.

The 23rd BJF will be closed with the star of the festival, the American singer D. D.Bridgewater in Sava Center on October 29. She is double winner of the Grammy award and she devoted her new album “Red Earth” to the exploration of Malian music.
