The European Heritage Days in Serbia

BELGRADE / BAC (SEEcult.org) - Celebration of Europe cultural heritage in Serbia officially started on September 13 in Bac in Vojvodina, and through September 21 will be held in rest of the country, including in Belgrade, where the events marking the 2007 European Heritage Days took place last year.

Serbian minister for culture Nebojsa Bradic opened in Bac central celebration of the European Heritage Days, saying that this place is good example of dialogue of different cultures and nations that belongs to Serbia, as well as to great Europe. He expressed believe that there are more places like Bas in Serbia, and stressed that it is necessary to find them, make them recognizable and start new intercultural dialogues.

 

Bradic said also that culture has central place in those dialogues, adding that it should be recognized in near future.

 

He also said that Bac is good example of successful partnership of culture and urban regeneration in circumstances of globalization in today world.

 

The European Heritage Days celebration is organized in many cities in Serbia, and the most intensive program, which is consists of exhibitions, concerts, lectures, panel discussions, guided tours through the city and cultural and governmental buildings, is organised in Belgrade.

 

Serbian capital was last year host of central European celebration of European Heritage Days, which is a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

 

Once a year, citizens in almost 50 countries through Europe celebrate its cultural heritage. This initiative of the European Heritage Days, launched by the Council of Europe in 1991, has been since 1999 a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

 

On the occasion of the annual European Heritage Days, and the 20th anniversary of the Days in Belgium, the European Heritage Forum will take place in Brussels on 23-24 October. It will be held also on the occasion of the 2008 - European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

The European Heritage Forums are an annual international crossroads for all stakeholders, professional or voluntary, involved in the interpretation, communication and dissemination of the cultural heritage.
